How does Sophia build a course?

Sophia runs a set of specialised agents, each with its own tools and strengths. They read your material, search the web, structure the subject, write the lessons and draw the diagrams.

Sophia designs the curriculum first. It works backwards from what you should understand by the end and builds a path there: fundamentals before advanced material, the shape of the whole before its parts, intuition before formalism. You see that structure in the preview and approve it before Sophia writes a word.

Then it writes the lessons against that plan, reading your sources in full and pulling live web search and page fetch as it goes. You get a course that covers the subject and still reads as one course, each lesson landing where it belongs.

Is the content accurate?

Sophia grounds every lesson in material it can read: your sources, plus live web search and page fetch while it writes. A course reflects what’s findable today, not whatever the model absorbed in training. When a lesson leans on a video it links back to that timestamp. When it can’t ground a claim, it drops the claim, and a lesson with no usable material behind it fails the course instead of inventing one.

It is still AI and it can still be wrong: a misread figure, a confident sentence about something it half-knows. None of it is professional advice, legal, medical or financial. Check anything you plan to act on against the primary source. And when accuracy on a particular body of material matters, hand Sophia that material. A course built on your own sources beats one built on a topic name.

What can I build a course from?

A topic is enough on its own. “Teach me everything about Formula 1 aerodynamics” is a complete request. Sources are optional, and they pin a course to something specific: a link, a PDF, a video, an image, or a mix of them. Give Sophia a paper and you get a course about that paper, not about the surrounding field.

How long does a course take to build?

Usually a few minutes, and you don’t have to wait on it. Keep using the app or close it, and you can have several courses building at once. A big course built on something heavy, like a two-hour video, takes longer.

Are my courses private?

Yes. Courses you build stay private to your account unless you publish one to the community.

Delete a course and it’s gone: the lessons, the sources you gave it, the images generated for it, its chat history, and the search index built from it. We delete the stored files themselves, not just the records pointing at them. Two things outlive it. We keep the billing and audit records for that generation, which financial compliance requires. And if you’d published the course and another member saved it, their copy is theirs and stays in their library.

How are credits calculated?

Sophia runs on credits, and only two things spend them: previewing a curriculum and generating the course itself.

  • A curriculum preview costs 15 credits. That’s the outline you get before committing to anything: the course title, its sections, and every lesson it would contain. One flat price, whatever the topic.
  • Generating the course costs 10 credits per planned lesson. A 20-lesson course is 200 credits. You know the lesson count from the preview, so you know the price before you decide.
  • Courses built on large sources cost more. Sophia carries a long video or a big PDF into every lesson rather than skimming it once, which keeps the material grounded and costs more per lesson. A video also adds a one-time fee for reading it through. You pay that fee once per course, ever, however much work the course needs later. Links to web pages add nothing.

Whatever the mix, you see the exact total before you press Generate, and that total is the price. We absorb failed provider attempts, retries, generated images and any repair work on our side. The quote never moves once generation starts, and running out of credits mid-way can’t stop a course that already began.

Where do credits come from?

  • A one-time free grant when you create an account, so you can build something real before paying anything.
  • A monthly plan. Basic, Plus, Pro, and Max each grant a set number of credits on every successful billing cycle. The App Store or Google Play shows and charges the price in your local currency.
  • Top-up packs, if you run out mid-month. A top-up requires an active paid plan and must match your current tier; it adds credits without changing or extending your subscription.

Credits are for use inside Sophia. They have no cash value, and you can’t redeem them for money or transfer them between accounts.

Do credits expire?

Credits granted by a subscription expire at the end of the following monthly billing period, so you have the current cycle plus the next one to use them. The app’s Usage screen shows the exact amounts and dates.

Free-grant credits and top-up packs never expire, including after you cancel or downgrade.

What happens if a course fails to generate?

A course becomes readable only once every planned lesson has generated. If a provider, safety, or system problem stops it partway:

  • We release any credits that were reserved but not used.
  • Credits already consumed by lessons that did succeed stay charged, pending support review.
  • You can report the generation from the app, with or without asking for a refund, and we’ll look at it.

A delivered preview stays charged even if you discard the draft, since the curriculum work was already done.

Can I get credits back?

If a generated course is bad or broken, submit a refund request from the app. A human reads every request, so your balance and your access don’t change straight away. On approval we restore the credits that course consumed and revoke your access to it.

Store-level refunds are separate. If Apple or Google reverses a purchase we remove the value it granted, and if you’d already spent those credits you’re left owing the balance, which blocks new generation until you clear it.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Through your Apple or Google account settings, the same place you manage your other subscriptions. We can’t cancel it for you. Cancelling stops future renewals; it doesn’t change the expiry of credits you already hold, and courses you generated stay readable.

Deleting your Sophia account does not cancel a store subscription. Cancel it in the store as well.
